1 fledgling left!
i havnt blogged for weeks. Its been hectic! well, as hectic as I can get with Fibro!!!
We've been busy getting rachel ready to fly the nest. Firstly in her efforts to flex her wings she got amazing A level results. 1A* and 3A's, ensuring her place at St Andrews Uni.
We are soooo proud of her getting in. Apparently applications doubled this year due to the 'Kate amd Wills' connection!
We've spent weeks buying up the whole of Dunelm! Then last week she packed up her stuff in boxes and they got shipped up to her accomodation.
I was trying to be calm but by Thursday, the day before departure |I was feeling very uptight and upset. But I had to hide it and be all jolly, jolly, isnt this fun kind of thing!
Thurs night I made dinner for my dad and Mr Cinders Mum and his neice as rach's 'farewell meal'. She requested Salmon so thats what we had, with noodles and stir fry veg.
Fri was departure day so we were up v early and got the car packed. Now considering rach had sent 5 huge 30 kg boxes on ahead of her, I thought she's just have a few last minute things in the car! Er, no! It was jam packed with more stuff. Josh came with us ( he woke up that morning and hey. ho he wasnt well so couldnt go to school!) and he was squashed with his knees under his chin for most of the journey.
Gosh its a long way up to St Andrews! mind you we didnt go straight to St Andrews. We were staying 20 mins away on the Fife coast in ANstruther, more later..We left at 9.15 after trying to prise rachel away from her cat Oscar for 15 mins! The journey up was straight forward. Up the M6 to Carlisle where we stopped at the lovely service station and had a stretch and coffee. Then up the M74 . The sat nav then sent us on a very long windy boring route along a mountain road across country for 30 miles of hills and sheep! good job no one needed the loo! we stopped for lunch . I had the weirdest chicken salad ever! it was a right hodge podge, salad, chicken breast, prawn mayo, egg mayo, potato salad(more mayo) and coleslaw (more mayo), pate and chutney!!! Sort of a gone wrong lpoughmans! I left alot of it, too mayonaisie for me.
We got to our guest house at 4pm. We stayed at a lovely guest house which I'd highly recommend, called The spindrift
Mr Cinders has a friend from college days who lives in Anstruther whome we havnt seen or been in touch with ,apart from Xmas cards, for 22 years! He made contact and we went out for dinner that night. They were a lovely couple and we had a good laugh and a nice meal.
The East Neuk of Fife Is gorgeous. But the weather had changed drastically and was like Decemeber. It was wild and exposed. I was freezing. The wind howled across the flat coastal area, the sea thrashed against the harbour walls and the wind whistled through the door of the guest house! We were staying next to a wheat field and the wheat was virtually driven flat!
As we had 2 double rooms rach and Josh didnt want to share a double bed so it worked out nicely for me as we girls slept together and had a slumber party and we left the men to fart and snore together!!
By 10.30 we were on our way to St Andrews. It was a hot, sunny day thankfully and there wasnt eve n a ripple in the wheat field.
Rachel is living in New Hall. when we arrived at the halls she went off to register. Its just aswell that she went on ahead as I got out of the car and burst into tears! it just came out! so I composed myself before going on in. We got to her room and unpacked the car. we couldnt get to the boxes until the afternoon so we raided Morrisons for all her food and stuff and came back.
at this point my Fibro got the better of me and I fell onto the bed and let them all get the boxes and unpack and sort out her kitchen stuff. Rach had brought so much stuff that even she was overwhelmed by it all!!! we went out for lunch/tea at 5pm I got hubby to drive us around St Andrews as I didnt want my first visit to be her halls and Morrisons!!. then we came back and carried on until 6.30pm
We couldnt get a bed at the Spindrift and I had decided that if we were saying goodbye Sat night then I wanted to leave St Andrews and come away so we drove 1.30 hours to a Premier inn outside Edinburgh.
Actually Rachel was the first to cry when we were ready to go so she set us all off. we left her in her room upset but she was going to a foam party that night.
I was so exhausted and in so much pain from over travelling, over walking and over doing it that I was gratefull for a bath and bed.
We set off for home Sunday morning via the outlet shopping village at Gretna green. V boring!
Rachel phoned us and she was all happy and excited so that made me feel better. I was fine until I got home, then I cried on and off for a while, but then so did Mr Cinders!!
So our female chick had fledged and flown away. Its quiet here today. Only 2 grumpy men for company. But thats life. It wont be too long until we see her again and at least Sama nd Sarah are home next week for Rosh Hashannah so I shall have some 'daughter' company!!
